Just as a matter of interest to folks, cmd-period invokes the Cancel in most
situations in the MacOS. So, getting out of dialogs etc should still be
simple. Regarding the Escape key being mapped to specific actions, these
actions will likely just be mapped to a different key combination.

Could anyone confirm this? Prior to OS Sierra, I used to invoke menu extra
with control+f8 key combination. Once there, I could use arrow keys to move
from menu item to menu item and then up and down arrows to open the submenus.
