I have files in the iCloud Drive that show up on my iPhone in the files app.
They are hopelessly out of date. Why do I think these files should
automatically synchronize between the iPhone and Mac, as I make changes to them
using either device? Where am I going wrong?

Hi,
You are not you mistaken. They should be syncing. Make sure that iCloud Drive
is checked in settings on your iPhone, and that the specific applications such
as Pages or Numbers are also checked in iCloud settings on all devices.

It has happened to me a few times as well. It’s as if Voiceover gets muted. I
hear the Voiceover sounds as I command+tab from app to up but there’s no
speech. I usually do what you’ve done to remedy the situation.

The folders in my iCloud Drive are synced to iPhone, Mac and
Windows. Those folders do not exist outside of iCloud Drive. I don't
know if it matters but it is simpler for me to manage things.

Seems to be working now. What I did:
Located the Documents folder using the Dock, and opened.
Copied all the folders and files I wanted to have synchronized.
Verified that any change I made on Mac showed on iPhone, and vice versa — Voila!
Created an alias for the Documents folder on
