I upgraded to Mavericks, and I ran the mail upgrade that fixed some known
issues with Google.
I cannot rely on mail for my baby use if it continues to behave the way it is.
I am not getting messages to download properly. Before, they were downloading
up to September 5, 2012.

I currently interact with message headings, then select the email address, copy
it, open the message, paste the email to the body of the new message, edit it
for extra characters, and move it over

I am having some trouble following the cursor while reading my email.
I use the router key commands to read by line. However, when I switch to
reading by Ward and look to read more detailed information, the cursor jumps to
the beginning of the email message.
