I know that there are indeed some I O S apps out there which can detect the song that you are playing in the native Music app, then offer you lyrics to the song. That's not however what I'm looking for. What I'm asking is, does anyone know of an app that is basically just a stand alone app

Most churches purchase something called a CCLI (Church Copyright License - ccli.com) which covers projection, song sheets, recording the service etc. So an iPhone app would need to pay some kind of fees to the copyright holder for the music and lyrics. That seems like a facet of the app which
