And to add a few more accents (Spanish, German, and Scandinavian
languages):
tilde - Option-n;
eszett or sharp ess - Option-s;
slashed o - Option-o;
The last two are also not dead keys.

Thanks Simon, that is helpful. I figured this out after Donna posted
the tip on pressing command-letter and then letter.. Guarantee ask me
this next month and I will have not forgotten. Man, I can't believe I
forgot the extra step. :)

Just in case anyone else needs these:
acute accent - Option-e;
grave accent - Option-accent sign;
circumflex accent - Option-i;
diaeresis - Option-u;
C cedilla - Option-c (this is the only one that isn't a dead key).
Also, you can make the "oe ligature" by doing Option-q.

Yep Esther, you done found me out. However, that was to simple and
would make to much sense. You know I just had to know how to make it
work and sure enough Donna provided the answer. Now this is one of
those I'm not going to forget for another reason I can't discuss here,
but it proved
Naaa, I would rarely need this. This was needed to correct my catalog
entry for a particular artist and well I can't stand not knowing the
answer to something so simple. So, to me it was easier to go ahead
and just learn how to deal with this in the event it comes up again.

Hi Scott,
Joining this thread late, but are you sure this isn't for editing
artist names in your iTunes collection again (grin)? Remember that
if all else fails, you can find the track or album in the iTunes

access it whenever you need it. Maybe copy it into your clipboard

Ah, got it. Oddly enough, this was the first thing I ever learned how
to do on a Mac. I'm a professor of Spanish, and had to give my
students info on how to produce diacritics on their computers. So,
though I'd never used a Mac, I had found a set of instructions for

Yep, option-e followed by the vow your needing as Donna pointed out.
It's used mostly for accented characters in names etc.

Oh the confusion on my part was the fact I assumed this could be done
with one keystroke. and once I realized it would require two steps, I
realized that was the part I had forgotten.

Hi.
Try option e. Sounds like what you're searching for. What's that
character used for?

John, unfortunately keyboard help is only really for VO commands and
of course it will give you what the keys do, but not keystrokes to
produce special characters. However, Donna provided the answer, which
I had forgotten and that was it required two keystrokes, option-e,
release, and the
e letter you need. I'm not

You got it right but were probably confused. Option e followed by a
vowel will give you that vowel with a acute accent.
option i does the same thing but for a circumflex accent.
I have forgotten what the grave accent is on the US keyboard. Used to
be you could go into keycaps and figure this o
Hi Scott,
Here is my suggestion:
•press control-option-K to start Keyboard Help
•try different keys to find the one heard as "a Qd accent", since this
is the key I press first
•when you have found it, escape Keyboard Help and press the key,
followed by e. This should create é.
Hope this hel
e accent, so if that's what you need, I apologize.
Best,
Donna

Hi John, unfortunately I have a US keyboard, which I think is a little

is to the left of your delete key. For me it is the equal key. My
understanding is that the option key in combination with another key

Hi Scott,
Since I have this letter in my name, I suppose I should try to help
you out here... ;-)
On my norwegian keyboard, I press the key just to the left of the
delete key, and then the e key. If you use control-option-K I think
you will find it pretty fast.
Hope this helps,

Folks, I asked this question a while back and I recall pretty much how
to do this, but I for the life of me can't seem to get this one
character.
I am trying to create the character 'Latin small letter E with a Q'.
If I press option semicolon, I get the æ 'Latin small letter E', but I
