I'm not sure if I understand your question totally. In standard view, your
messages are in conversations and by default, a couple of lines of the messages
is displayed. Vo will read this summarized version of the message and in some
cases, this will be the entire message if the sender is

Have to ask again, sorry, did you double check that after the collapsed
vertical splitter there follows a horizontal one?.

Okay, strange but true. We are close on this one. Using standard view in Mac
Mail Mountain Lion I have been able to get the vertical bar to collapse. This
doesn't, however, prevent the entire message from being read. Any other
thoughts?

Try the following.
1. Removing the Preview Pane in Classic layout:
• Navigate to the Horizontal Splitter that is to the right of the Messages
table.
• Press VO-cmd-f5 (add FN if needed). This will bring the mouse to the VO
cursor and announce where the mouse is and it should read "Horizo
Thanks for the tip. However, I'm still not getting anyt=where. The horizontal
bar, according to my mother-in-law, controls a pane on the left which has the
list of mailboxes. The vertical bar seemingly does nothing. Any other tips?
