Yes, you're correct, Brad. I was trying to point to the time of
acquisition, but could have been more precise about that.

Hi, Matthew:
OK, since you already have the replacement unit and assuming the same
behavior turns up, you have another option.
There are converter plugs that will swap the appropriate leads. If you
can find the appropriate converter plug, this may be a workable option.
You may want to contact
Yes, and mine is currently working just fine connected to a Mackie 1202
audio mixer. The Mackie seems tolerant both ways around as I've had all
manner of audio devices connected without issue.

Don't bother replacing the speakers. The same thing will happen. Unless
they have a model specificallyh designed for Apple Mac or IOS devices, I
would simply return them for a refund and look for a different option.

I should have read further into this thread.
I'm now willing to bet I'm correct in pointint to a wiring difference.
This has been a bone of contention between Apple on the one hand, and
Windows and Android on the other for some years. It has been less of an
issue with 3.5 ports disappearing, but
There are several such devices out there.
I first encoutered them with a Senheisser headset some years ago. The
headset cable terminated in a pair of 3.5 mm plugs, one for headphone,
one for microphone. Senheisser also included a USB dongle with two 3.55
mm jacks for those cables so that one
Could be the wiring of your 3.5 mm connecting cable. Have you tried swapping
cables?

It also shows on my 2020 generation Mac Mini under both Catalina and now
Big Sur.

That would be my assumption as well.
I’d send the speakers back to Amazon for a refund, and get something else.

What happens if you change the audio output device in System Preferences?

Hi Brad and all,
Just tried pair of ear buds with a 3.5 jack and they work fine. I am incline
to thingk it is a bad set they gave me since they do not work on any of my
other devices. What a shame. They power up, but they do not show up as an

I’ve had speakers similar to this that I used on a Windows PC at work. They
functioned just fine on my Windows machine, so I am wondering why you are
having a problem using them on a Mac mini.
I know you said you can see a little green light, so you know the speakers have
power.
I’m wondering
Hi PPeet,
Here you,. Thees are usb speakers and are suposivly plug and play. You plug
in the usb end into the USB port of your machine which is how they get power
and then youplugin the 3.5 mm end into the jack for sound output. With that
here is the link.
Matthew,
Would you be willing to share the brand and model of your speakers? I’m
intrigued by you saying that the cord has a USB plug on one end and a 3.5-inch
plug on the other, and I’d like to learn more about the concept.
Thanks,

Peet,
I still have sound through the internal speeker even wile the speakers
connected. Other headphones work far as I know. I am guessing it is the
speakers themselfs but not sure as I sill have a surface pro I might be able to
test with. My linux machine did not work there either.

Hi,
I have a couple of questions about this, and I’m sure you’ve looked at these,
but I feel better at least asking. First, do you have any other devices with
3.5-inch jacks that you can connect your speakers to, do they work with these
other devices? Next, do you by chance have a pair of
Yes and this is a shame as I really want to get thees speakers running on this
machine. Oh well I guess I will have to keep hunting for something that works.
Like I said I can confirm that they have power. VO just says name which is
empty.

I do notice that on my 2019 MacBook Pro, also running macOS Catalina 10.15.7,
the Headphone jack does not show up int the list of Output devices when nothing
is plugged into the jack.

That might be do to not having restarted yet, but there is a device that is not
speaking. The light is on on the speaker so I know it is getting power.
Thanks.

Mac mini 2018 has a 3.5 mm audio output located on the back of the unit, below
the 2 USB-A ports.
The unit does not have an audio input jack.
