I believe you can set fullscreen apps to cause do not disturb to turn on. That
might be helpful for the interruptions cause my notifications.

Hi, i have not used the Mac much of late for Ebooks.
On the Mac i have done different things, scanned them with a book scanner , and
read them , made pubs into rtf documents and read them too, it depends on the
format you are using i guess.

And my apologies again. Yes clearly says Mac, and I was thinking iOS. I’ve read
so many more books on my iPhone and iPad that I have on my back. On my Mac I
have used iBooks. But I haven’t read for any length of time only look for parts
of a document.

Thanks. I'll have to work with iBooks a little more, as it usually stops
reading, with Voiceover, after a few pages. MacBook early 2015 here, with SSD.

Hi,
The iBooks app is very usable with VO. Myself, I've turned off the
notifications for Mail so that all I hear is the ding, not the preview of the
message. This has stopped the interruptions for me. I guess I might still get
some iMessage interruptions, but I've decided to leave those
Voice dream, as far as I know, is not available for macOS.

Hi, I was recently turned onto voice dream. It works really well, it’s designed
for visually impaired and dyslexic. It’s very customizable.
As far as notifications can’t really comment I don’t get too many notifications
that interrupt.

Hi all. What are ways that listers read EPUB and other eBooks on the Mac? I
know about iBooks, but how usable is it with Voiceover and whole books? Also,
how do people deal with reading when notifications come in and stop voiceover
from reading further?

I will give bookle a try. So far, most of my ePub books are all DRM-free from
other sources outside Apple. Yes, iBooks for the mac would be the best because
you could then sync books and bookmarks over iCloud like you can between iOS
devices.
This will do for the time being.

Epub is just a fancy name for a zip file with the HTML book and some
other files specific to ebook readers. Why not just change the file
extension to .zip extract the archive and load index.html in your
favourite browser.

That's an interesting background; I thought there was more to it than that.
Problem with using a browser is you can't do the kind of things that you can do
in iBooks like precise bookmarking, annotation, and browsers don't keep their
place like iBooks would do either. I'm just surprised there
There is (or was) Stanza, but it won't open drm-protected books, such as Ibooks
titles. It's very hard to get Stanza now, as all the links I've found for it
are either broken or hijacked.

Hi.
You can use adobe preview accessible version.
I bought a while ago a program called bookle. It should be accessible with
VoiceOver, but there seems to be something to it, that I have missed. I have
some navigation problems.
Best regards Annie.

Bookle is an accessible app for reading DRM free ePub books on the Mac. It can
be found in the Mac app store.
I agree there should be a Mac app for reading DRM protected books on the Mac.
It's strange Apple hasn't brought out iBooks for the Mac. It's a shame too, as
I quite like iBooks.

This may have been asked before but I don't recall answers just now. I'm
wondering if there are any apps for the Mac to read epub books ala iBooks
fashion? Sure Ibooks is fine on the iPod but when I'm home in front of my mac,
I would like to be able to read them there instead without altering
