I’ve actually had to launch it twice when it does that to me, which is vary
regularly, and that always seems to fix it for me.

Someone once did a Messages screenshare with me and was able to hear my
VoiceOver, although they didn't need to. I don't remember the steps to
initiate this,but it worked well and solved my immediate problem at the
time.

So there's no way to transfer speech over the same connection? That would make

First of all, use VO-F1-F1 to switch apps on the slave machine.
As for the sound, we use Skype at the same time as TeamViewer to hear the other
person's machine talking.
