How does one tell when your in DFU mode?

YOu'd normally invoke DFU mode when an iOS device is connected to iTunes. In
this case, iTunes will tell you that it has detected a device in recovery mode.
Also, all regular functions of the device aren't available. The device hasn't
fully booted into iOS, so for example VoiceOver on the
care to be a little more specific? I've never heard of DFU mode.
