there's a place where it says "video codek" and then audio codek. should I do
anything with either one of those?

I believe profile is where you choose Audio MP3, and if I remember right,
customize is where you choose bitrate, stereo or mono.
I could not find a progress, so just give it a while and check the destination
folder.

where vlc asks you to customize or choose a profile, is there anything I should
do there?
I can't tell what it's doing or when it's finished. do you just check the
folder where you put it?
thanks.

Hi,
I just did it for the first time and it worked.
Open VLC, go to the file menu and look for convert/stream
A new window will open. here you can press VO Space on the open media
to browse for the video mp4 file you wish to convert.
After that, you can choose the bitrate and

Hi,
I also believe you can convert to mp3 directly with Ffmpeg as well and this

OK, I understand. I also agree what i describe isn't quite beginner
level. If someone doesn't come up with a better solution for you, and
you still want to try, I'll walk you through this step by step. Just let
me know. I'm usually on list every few days, and often once or twice a
day.
Best,
I'm sorry but I don't understand any of this. I don't know anything at all
about how to use the commandline. I'd like to. it sounds like it's very useful
for more than one thing. but I don't have any idea how to impliment what you
just told me here.

It's not exactly conversion because the MP4 file is actually a
container, but extracting the audio is certainly possible. Someone else
might be able to help you with a graphical tool. I use ffmpeg on the
terminal command line with a shell script where the operative command is
the following:
I just want the audio on an mp4 created in a Zoom meeting. what's the best way
to get it on a Mac? can it be done with VLC media player? it seems like Pontes
Media Downloader might be able to do it but I haven't figured out how to make
it work.
thanks.
