The only way I know of to add a phone number is from your iPhone. If you've
turned on iMessages on your iPhone, and you use the same Apple ID on your Mac,
your phone number should show up in that send messages from pop up menu under
accounts in Messages preferences.

Your phone number is added automatically if you've set up iMessage and/or
FaceTime on your iPhone. Once set up on the iPhone, it will sync with your
Apple ID on all devices set up for iMessages and FaceTime with that same Apple
ID. As your phone number is not showing up, then I'm guessing

In Messages Preferences under the Accounts tab. There is an option to, "Start
new messages from:". Below it there is a pop up menu to choose from. Simply
select your phone number from this menu.
