Opening PDF files in iBooks on a Mac

Well, I decided to attempt to open a Take Control PDF Book. Using "Command i" I first selected the file then pressed command+I changed my default choice from Docuscan Plus to iBooks and applied the changes to all PDF files. Yes, iBooks opens and Preview opens in the background. The actual file

It only skips characters when I'm reading word by word (i.e. not holding down shift) and when I switch from moving to the right to moving to the left. It skipped a space or two when I was reading character by character, but this seemed inconsistent. -- You received this message because you are

How are you attempting to read character by character? In most applications with voiceover, unless you are in an application where you can edit, you have to interact with the text you want to read and use vo-shift and the arrows. In editable areas in applications that allow editing you can actua

If you are trying to access a pdf in safari and aren't getting results that are readable, try this: (1)Go to the pdf in safari. Check your window with vo-f2 and/or check the address you are in and make sure it really is the pdf you are in and not some kind of viewer for the pdf instead. I'm thi

I agree with your Hmmm. I played with things some more by opening a PDF document with QuickLook and did find it less than useful. I'm not sure why you're getting a menu when using your arrow keys. For me, if I simply use arrow keys without the VO keys, then it changes pages within the PDF doc

How do you read line by line? I can enable quick nav and rotor to lines, but that is not perfect and can be laggy. Up and down arrows just move to the previous or next item and open it in quicklook, which I understand preview to be. Am I missing an app others are using? On Feb 21, 2013, at 12:10

Hi, Preview usually works just great for me, line by line or whatever method I choose. I do, however, find it much easier to use in Single-page mode which you can enter by pressing cmd-2 in ML. I use it for multi-page curriculum guides, various manuals and much, much more. Later... Tim Kilb
