That doesn't break it
Since he's not going to be able to split it and he didn't like my idea
of buying some dule layer dvd's, the only solution that I can think of
is cloaning it to some form of usb storage.

That doesn't break it into two pieces. A single external volume of
sufficient size could hold your 6GB image. Disk utility can clone your
DMG to another device (USB thumb drive, hard drive or whatever). You
just can't use a DMG that's been cut into two separate volumes.

Another option might be to try and find a program that will write the
dmg to usb and then to boot from usb but I can't give you any names at
the moment.
