Hello Sarai,
Please be careful when creating shortcuts. Simple shortcuts are usually already
taken. For example, in Pages, Ctrl-t is Transpose the characters on either
side of the insertion point”. This is why I always choose shortcuts using
Cmd-Ctrl-Shift since as VoiceOver users, we can’t

Hello Sarai,
Are you interacting with column 2 as well as the table? You need to go right
once within that column before pressing the Add shortcut button.
Also, have you repaired permissions lately? Sometimes, repairing permissions
can cure all kinds of anomalous behaviour.
Cheers,
Anne
Hello:
Yes, I’m interacting with the table. I haven’t repaired permissions in a while.
I just did a clean install of Yosemite
I’ll try disk permissions.

Oh yes, anytime you do an install or update, you really should repair

Hello Sarai,
The “New TextEdit window containing selection” can be found in System
Preferences/Keyboard/Keyboard Shortcuts. Select Services in the first table,
then in the second table, you’ll find it under the heading Text.

Hello Sarai,
The short cut you are trying is not a good one as it’s used everywhere
throughout the OS. I recommend Cmd-Ctrl-Shift-t which shouldn’t cause a
conflict.

Anne

Having interacted with the table, place yourself on the second column where it
says “Add shortcut, button”. Interact again, do VO-Right arrow then VO-Space.
Enter your shortcut at this point. You also need to check the check box in
column 1.
Cheers,

There should be no need to interact with the text field or at least I just
tried it now and didn't need to. Do vo-space on add shortcut for the item you
want to change. Then just do the combination right there. If there is already a
combination there, of course you won't be able to press add
Hmm, still no luck. Not sure why.

I haven't been following this thread very closely, but how are you typing the
shortcut? You need only press the shortcut as you want it to be, not actually
type the names of the keys. If you wanted ctrl-t, you'd literally press control
and t together, not type anything. Hope this makes sense,

In a Pages template, you often have to press Return followed by Cmd-z for
placeholder text to function correctly in that each section should become
highlighted when you navigate using just the arrow keys.
As for seeing the spacing etc, you can use the service “New TextEdit window

If you’re referring to the “New textedit window with selection” that Anne spoke
of, first you have to have something selected for it to show up, and it will be
found under the pages menu in “services”.
That’s for manual use, for a short cut key to execute that service, That’s
