I am glad I am not the only one with this problem. I had turned off messages
for offline viewing and was afraid this was messing it up but I guess not.
Maybe this is worth writing about to accessibil...@apple.com. I will try again
when I can connect a screen to the mini with my sighted husband

I usually just use the term in the search field I am looking for, whether it's
subject, sender, etc. I type that in the search box and hit return. The search
results appear in the message table. I honestly haven't tried searching more
specifically, so someone else can clarify that aspect.

Apart from searching for messages containing my search term anywhere, I haven't
gotten any further either. Some people say that a menu appears below the
toolbar where your search term is. This is true on my machine sometimes, but it
is not as easy as that, to search for
