As mentioned, the Mac re-opens the apps you had open when you shut down. You
can change this in System Preferences if you want to. I like it, since there is
a set of programs I would always have to open anyway, as they stay open all the
time; this way I just boot up, and whatever I was doing is
I did close the app with command-q. that worked. Not sure why it didn’t earlier
but it certainly did this time around.
Restarting the computer shows only the two apps running that are supposed to be
running. Happy Day!

When you say you closed Amadeus, did you Quit the app (command-Q) or
just close the document window? Closing all the documents usually
doesn't actually close the app.

app, press VO-shift-m to bring up the Contextual menu, go to Options and open

Not sure how this happened but I now have several programs, Amadeus, Pages and
Prismo in particular, launching at start. I do not want these programs to do
so. How do I stop them?
