Hi Damian,
Using Maemo input methods without using GTK is possible.
Everything works via XMessages. So you have to add the capability to your
application to send and read these XMessages.
You can learn more about HIM following this link:

I use it mainly because my laptops (both mac and linux) have shared
public folders, and they are shared using SMB, so in the filemanager
my computers popup and I can access or transfer things just by moving
them to/from the public folder. I can do so via bluetooth or other

Hi! I'm working on porting an existing xlib-based application to the Maemo
platform. I'm trying to understand whether keeping xlib is a feasible
option. (I know very little about GTK development.)

I have unison compiled for chinook here:

But maybe its also in extras too by now?
You probably want to create a maemousers group on the machine with the
same UID as the users group on the maemo device.
# grep maemousers /etc/group

We can skip SMB in this case as the USB transfer would be easier and faster.
Although this would be PC driven while I would like to transfer files
while using the tablet on the sofa.
What SMB would be useful for is sha
The majority of Windows users probably don't know what rsync, scp and unison
