looked in the memory manager, I've looked at the options in the file
explorer app, and I've googled the matter online.
The 'external' (i.e. not behind the battery) card is automatically
unmounted when the exterior door holding it in is opened.

As I say, these were the other way around on the 770, which was
sub-optimal for the way I use the device. I'm very pleased they're
swapped round ... :-)

FWIW, I find that the time to drop $APP out of full-screen mode and
start a new application with the stylus is sufficiently small as to
validate Nokia's decision not to provide a hardware button for this
function.
