Is it a good idea to limit yourself to UPNP? I have been looking
I've started a little research project to figure out the best setup for

There is a lot more to cover. One thing I would say however so far is that
on Windows WMP works the best.

And every Nokia upnp client app (Canola, Media Streamer) worked like a
charm.

Au contraire... instant on with Windows Connect and WM10? as servers.
This may not be what masses who own N800 have, but I've found Win XP
stable for all but media center (HD) activity.
I own a WM5 8525 phone as well aso a Win box comes in handy!
I'll try Myth tomorrow.

Thanks Dan, however this all requires you control it using a web
browser; i already have that setup with SlimServer.
i don't want to have to juggle a media+player and the web+browser on my
N800 while listening to music. Its clunky and in today's modern age, we
should demand something sexier!!

Hi Alan,
I had tried once:
http://www.gnu.org/software/gmediaserver/
It is just a command line interface, but it worked to me (besides I
didn't use the Nokia to listen to music). If your library is too large
it will take a long time until the server be available. Video streamer

its true -- and so far the 3 i have tried are nightmares to install due
to missing libraries and dependencies! Man i hate Linux sometimes.
libhowl seems to be the one that is causing the grief!

These [Rhythmbox/Banshee/Muine/] are all desktop apps for GNOME; this
isn't what i want. The Linux server is a headless machine. I don't

Thanks Marty, but isn't an elegant solution.
You still require a browser to control your playlist etc. So as a
solution it rates no higher than what i have with SlimServer.
the quest continues

I just started to use gnump3d and I have been happy with it so far.
Setup took 10 minutes and I was able to browse to my music and I was
able to play my music. I have not tried it with video so I can not
comment on that yet.

Did you search internettablettalk.com? Mounting has been discussed
quite a bit, and I know it can be done. I am not sure how well it
works for accessing media though, as the transfer rates may not be
good enough. When I had cifs set up I never tried this.
There are also other streaming programs
Okay good N800'ers what are my options here.
My Setup:
Shed loads of MP3's/Videos sitting on a Linux server with samba running
at the moment.
So how can i effectively access those files from my N800?
Ideally i would like to mount my share point on the N800; but i have
failed to do that, and
