Alternatively...
replace the "|mailman post " alias with a
LIST: /dev/null
or other destination (which does not go to mailman post)
and then create an unadvertised aliases such as
LIST-really-send: "|mailman post "
perhaps that will do what you want.

I am currently installing Mailman as a replacement for majordomo. Mostly
everything is going smoothly.
I have a question regarding umbrella lists. I have 4 "real" mailing lists
and 5 aliases that redirect to some or all of these lists.
For the sake of explanation let's call the "real" lists :
How can I edit the aliases output from the newlist program?
I would like to include more specific instructions based on our particular
environment.
