Frankly, I don't know. Copying doesn't necessarily preserve the "last
changed" time, and I don't know for sure if MailMate looks at the
relative change times of various files.

No idea if this adds anything, but I’m noticing (again) more emails in
my Apple Mail inbox that I’ve deleted from Mailmate, which means that
it’s not syncronizing again.
