I appreciate this detailed explanation. I've been trying to figure out WTF was going on in my Contacts app for a while. This sheds the light that I need. Honestly, the Contacts app is NASTY but it integrates with everything Apple, and I have so many Apple devices, I feel pretty locked into it.

Ed, The app I use instead of Contacts which accesses the database just fine (and stores is away in its own configuration, BTW) is Busy Contacts. It uses a different methodology that makes it compatible but separate and more stable. It uses a tag field so you can sort on the tag. I haven’t

Edward, Now I understand. You started in Contacts and then used it in MailMate by typing the group name as you described. The key then is they’re two difference apps, one is Contacts, that MailMate takes advantage of by linking. Yes, it’s what I read in the Help Menu there in MailMate. Nice
