I'm new to MapGuide and indeed to GIS. I'm trying to follow the Getting
Started guide and I wonder if you can give me any guidance on the development
language to choose. I know a bit of PHP and a lot of Java, but I was wondering
if choosing java would cause me problems in terms of
The API is very close to being equvalent in all three supported languages.
It should not cause you much trouble to convert from PHP/.Net to Java.
I have not used the JSP extensions, but I have a sense that the PHP
extensions are more natural than the .Net extensions.

I've managed to install the mapguide server and have the phpdemo up and
running. I now want to try to create something using my own data and I'm
trying to use the Open Source Web Studio tool to create this but really getting
nowhere.
I downloaded the world_borders files from here
Okay here is a bump. I know its not that critical, but still it gives me a

and then call JavaScript function
I have not used the Selection procedures extensively.
I find them usefull only for handling selections that are displayed to
the user.
When you create the buffer item, you can retrieve the WKT for the buffer
item.
With this WKT, you can make a regular selection directly on the
featuresource.
