Before you open an Excel file in MI, verify that the cells that the dates are in are not set-up as Date 04-Mar-97. Either set the cells to read as General or Date 3/4/97. I ran a quick test using all 3 formats and only the cell set-up as Date 04-Mar-97 showed up as unrecognizable date field.
