Aine, Just a suggestion. Is there a reference to a network printer in the workspaces that include layouts? Perhaps the speed issue is related to the time taken to resolve the printer reference. you could check this by removing the printer reference from the workspace and then reopening it in MI.

I would suggest using the hotlink feature in MapInfo 6.0 or higher. If your autocad drawings are squares, you can download free grid-creation tools from directionsmag. Then you add a column for the hotlink to your grid. Enter the paths and filenames in a column within your table an activate the
