This can easily be done in mapinfo: Just select where town="Roma" and commit
as a new table called Roma. Repeat for other town names. Perhaps the problem

I have recently joined a team developing a GIS based database

Anyway we have a routine to export data to MI using MI automation. MI is run
in the background using GetObject and mapbasic commands are sent to create
the table and enter the data row by row.

I would think you'd need to commit the table fairly frequently, or better
yet, issue a "Set Table ...FastEdit On Undo Off" before adding data.
Otherwise the temporary transaction may become to large. And in such a case
it's quite unneccessary.

In case you were wondering why your message was stripped clean,
attachments (images, WAVs, viruses) are not allowed in MapInfo-L
