Hello Doug
I am sorry if you were upset by my reply.
The move to MasterMap includes a rich set of attribute data - but a
large number of users ( the majority ) will still primarily be
interested in using the maps for a reference to position their own
layers. The rich attribution will help to sp

Niklas,
You need a valid Map object to start with. Either use the map object on a
form (preferable as default properties are viewable/editable at design time)
or create one. Then the attach should work.

try your sql queries on a 2gig dat file - its just half the story to draw
the stuff! (often users dont even need/or want to draw anything - just
query). This was my real general point. Users out there reading this list
will think they can just throw everything in a huge pile and expect great
Hi,
Is it possible to call a MapBasic program function from within a DLL. The
setup is the following. I have a DLL that exports a function that is
called by a MapBasic function. The DLL invokes a dialog that receives
input from the user. Based on the input, I would like to call a MapBasic

Hi Vinny
Thanks for the reply. However if the data is stored relationally this
will not be a problem.
The updates include "departed features" as well as new features. If your
data is split into current holding ( ie whats on the ground now ) and
history ( ie previous versions ) then the current h
Once again I have a problem.
In thematic maps, when I insert a frame in the layout with the theme legend

how too fix that. I do know however, that if the legend of ... is

Thanks very much for the informative reply.
I should say from the outset that we have not yet reached the 2GB file size
limit and more importantly our file sizes should gradually diminish as we
remove some of the atrribute data that is not of any relevance to us.
However, my concern is that
Hi Listers,
We are trying to plot a 50 page atlas composed of raster aerial imagery and
vector overlay layers. We're using MI 5.5 and an HP 1220C printer. We seem
to be able to print 5-10 layouts and then we start having printing problems:
errors, spitting out paper etc. It doesn't matter wha
Hi Vinny
The ID file contains a list of 4 byte pointers into the MAP file thus
allowing record n to find map object n.
a 4 byte long will store +- 2GB and MapInfo have used a signed long thus
limiting themselves to half of this. Therefore even on systems(eg
Win2000) which allow files to be the

You can select rows that have object using "obj" in your where clause;
you can select rows that don't by using "not obj" in your where clause.

HI,

1. Is there any way to detect the rows containing
Null objects in a table.
2. How can we programmatically detect the event of
closing of a table i.e. I would like to show a message
when a certain table is closed from a MapInfo session
Any ideas will help me

Hello Dain - you should find the procedure in the MI manual,
but essentially what you want to do is start with one of the
preset templates and then customize it from the "Step 3 of

"customize"). Click on "styles" and change them to whatever

You do need to be wary of creating the large MI files - they become
extremely un-user friendly! eg. slow drawing, slow sql...
Do you really need to create a single 2gb file of features? Are you using a
feature factory somewhere (FME/Interpose) to create exactly what you need in

2 Gb happens to be the largest number of bytes which can be adressed
with a signed 32-bit number. On Windows 9x it is also the largest file,
which the OS can handle.
So it would require Windows NT/2000/XP and probably a new TAB format.
The answer from MapInfo Corp. would probably be, that you sh
Hi Philip,
Sorry for asking some really trivial stuff but I haven't actually used MapX before..
But how do I create a new standalone feature which can be added to a collection ?
I've tried this:
var
f: CMapXFeature;
ftrs : CMapXFeatures;
rect: CMapXRectangle;
begin
rect := CoRectangle.

I consider myself to be an intermediate user of MapInfo software so bear
with me if my query is too simplistic for some of the MapInfo gurus.
I've been doing some translation of OS MasterMap data and have been told
that the maximum file size limit for a MapInfo table is 2GB.

Hi List,
The problem about opening views in MIPro is even more tricky than I expected.
I've been experimenting with "inner selects" in MIPro 6.5+MS/SQL 4.5 (both patched),
and thought I had it licked.
I type in the query in the RDBMS open dialog's Expert entry to test whether a query
