When M.I. 8?
Hi Listers
After messing around with some custom symbols in MapInfo I get a request for
the directory of these settings files: MAPINFOW.FNT, MAPINFOW.PEN,
MAPINFOW.CLR every time i start MapInfo. I have to manually browse to this
dir each time:
C:\Documents and Settings\ngtetbl\Application
Greetings List,
Does anyone know of a MapInfo driven solution to take the place of the
defunct Decibel Planner?
TIA to all responders.
Best regards,

Thanks Peter. Your support solved my problem. Appararently, I have been
messing around a little too much with the custom symbol directories.

I would like to automate Vertical Mapper to run from within my MapBasic
program, to produce a contour plot. I believe I will need the Vertical
Mapper Software Developer Kit but I can't find any details of this on the
web. Now that MapInfo have the rights to VM is the SDK still available, if

Ther has always been Athena from Wave Concepts. It came out before

Greetings list,
Many thanks to all those who responded.
1) Decibel Planner is alive under another name - Planet EV - and belongs to
Marconi.
2) Athena from Wave Concepts also fits the bill nicely.

Thanks for the response to my query about map book creation
software. What I was looking for is a tool that can break up a
regional map into into numbered pages (with page references to
the neighboring pages and a tabular index of mapped features
referencing the pages they appear on. Much like a
Interesting thread Bill... I hope some of the listers will offer a review
or two on the Aussie MapShop program, both in terms of how they are using it
and in terms of its features and shortcomings (if there are any).
Speaking of the Aussies, it would appear they are the only Country that
Marconi did re-organize and after a horrific loss to shareholders they
have restructured. They are currently named Marconi Corporation PLC

Thats an interesting observation regarding the success of aussies

Mapinfo's success in Australia wasn't due to MapInfo, but rather a
commercial company called ERSIS. It was a reseller for MapInfo, but mainly
offered solutions in the early days because they only got a margin on

The success of MI over ESRI in Australia has been due to a couple of
factors.
Firstly MapInfo has been blessed with strong strategic / business partners
in Australia and New Zealand. With companies such as ERSIS (as
