I remember having to do this before...
If your dataset range is 253ft - 1096ft (for example), set your lowest
contour interval to 250ft and your highest to 1100ft, then set your interval
to what ever you like (10, 25, 50, 100, etc.) and away you go.
If you are creating 500 ft intervals, then set

What version of Vertical Mapper are you using. I have just finished a

I am using Vertical Mapper 3. When I bring up the Grid Manager and

I'm contouring with Vertical mapper and I've found what I hope is a bug...
What I would like to do is set a minimum, maximum and contour invterval, however the
manual stipulates you can only edit one of them. Thus, it is impossilble to achieve
even contouring intervals since my dataset doesn't

Do you perform this query using the SQL Select or do you send the query to Oracle
using the DBMS expert ?
If you send the query to Oracle you can use the power of Oracle to get a much better

Just a tiny comment: The Count aggregation always take a * as parameter, so you query
should be like this:
Select WARD_NO, TENURE_TYPE, Count(*) "How_Many"

MI-Listers,
A belated Thank you to MapInfo Guru Emeritus, Steve Wallace, Gilbert H., Nick
Bean, and Bill Thoen for advice concerning MapInfo 4.5 and Windows XP Pro.
MI 4.5 will not work with Windows XP Pro. I have upgraded to MI 7.5 through
GISnet.com, and am impressed with all the new features
Yes, the query would go something like this:
Select WARD_NO, TENURE_TYPE, Count(TENTURE_TYPE) "How_Many"
>From MY_TABLE
GROUP BY WARD_NO, TENURE_TYPE
ORDER BY WARD_NO, TENURE_TYPE
Into RESULTS_TABLE
If you are using the SQL select dialog, the first line above is the

Dear All
I have a MapInfo table which comprises ward reference no and tenure type. I am trying
to produce a query that will list the 20 wards and a count of how many of each tenure
type there are in each ward. I want one browser with all results on. Is this possible.
Thanks in advance

HI BELINDA,
I don't know how many fields you want to display but I know if you go to the
layer control and select the layer your interested in and go to the label

several fields together so when you go use your info tool you w
Thanks to Bob, Jacques, and Gilbert. Your technical insight to WMF and EMF

Clayton, when you are opening the Excel file, you should be able to specify
a range of data, and then check a box telling it that the first line is your
header line. When I import XLS files, I tell it the range starts at "A2"
instead of "A1", and then I check the box. This is assuming my first li
Hello,
I was wandering what MI (7.5) does to Oracle (9.2) when querying a table in the
direct mode.
It seemed to be "awfully slow" up to "not working at all" for bigger tables
(millions of rows).
So we eventually did a database trace on Oracle while connecting to the table.

Hi Richard
Easy. I am new as well to MapInfo, but I am getting there. This is what you do: click
Query>SQL Select, then on the dialog box

Where Condition: Company Name like "Richard%"
Group by olumns:
Order by Columns:

Hi Belinda
I think that the easiest way to do that is to make a selection from your
base table like this:
Select MyWantedColumnA, MyWantedColumnB,,MyWantedColumnG, Obj from
MyBaseTable
And then put this selection table into the map instead of the original.
When you point at the objects
Try this:
Select * From MYTABLE Where MYCOLUMN Like "%Richard%"
or
Select * From MYTABLE Where InStr(1, MYCOLUMN, "Richard") > 0
Replace:
MYTABLE with the name of your table
MYCOLUMN with the name of the "Company Name" column
I'm not which is fastest, but they should do the same thing. Note that
"Display Global": MapInfo uses the style defined as an override style, which can be
controlled in the layer control by doubleclicking a layer, checking the "Style
override" checkbox and choose the style in the displayed button(s). This also means
that every object has the same style.
