Thanks Peter - that fixed it.

Hello, List
Although fairly new to MI I only usually ask a question of the group
once I've read Help till I'm blue in the face. Well . I'm blue in the
face.
I have a Startup.wor, in the C:\Program Files\MapInfo\Professional
folder, that brings up all my maps and settings fine. I invoke
what about avoiding all that which is bound to get messed up again next
upgrade, and make a separate shortcut to it, specifying the required
parameters?
because i often need many of my 'favourite' settings and shortcuts at
multiple terminals, i've made a kind of 'links page' on my intranet, which

Best thing to do - to have maximum control - is to avoid the use of
workspaces when you have your own code you can use. You can take the
statements in the workspace file and put them into your Fox Pro code. First
line should be Close All to shut down any tables, and that is the last
thing
that's why none of my apps rely on system variables, because they vary. on
my machine alone i have 21 profiles stored, some with sub-domain features
and whatnot. it's impossible to guess where the user's thing is going to be
everytime, and i don't have the time/patience to make a robust solution
Hi, Mike
Thanks for that. That is sort of how I'd like to go but:
* I can't find anywhere how to do this: invoke MI, via the
windows Run Command, incorporating a (I presume) workspace parameter or
whatever.
* I still don't know what all this home and private Windows
directory

Thanks for getting back. I'm steering away from trying to control MI
from VFP code. You may recall the problems I had with IM. All my
control of MI is now in my MB application.
Would another slant on your solution then be to transfer my statup.wor
code to a MapBasic .MB, which is the
Mike
Thanks. I'll see if I can translate that into a VFP equivalent. The
main feature of the command though is that it seems to suggest that MI
can be invoked with a workspace as a parameter. E.g. via the syntax:
path to Mapinfo. Exe [path to a startup.wor]
Is that correct?

If you have an MB then yes do put all your workspace statements into it. No
need to use a workspace
Not sure if you need to worry about the various directory statements if you
are opening tables directly - it depends on how much you want to hard code
the paths in your app and where the
Hi List,
Does anyone know a way of grabbing the values in the .mig file for a Grid
thematic? Obviously the Info tool can see them but is there a way to see
them as normal attributes?

Hi out there,
I have lots of partitioned areas.
Something like (every charcter being a single polygon, 3 in the beginning)

So areas A and B touch. I would like to aggregate areas, if they touch. The result
could be (2 polygons):
AA C
I dont care about fields/attributes, assume there no
Dear List,
is it possible that WINNT blocks MI operations?
When working overnight we have to lock our PCs. The next morning, after
relocking the PC I found out that MI always displayed the same Progress Bar
(Updating a table) with the current value of 0 percent. Immediately after
relocking the PC
Hello again, List
First of all - thanks ever so much all of you who wrote up suggestions.
At one time replies were coming so thick and fast I was struggling to
read them and reply. I've replied to some but, then, some of them have
since replied back, and so on. So I apologise for not getting

Where can I download the various .DEF files for a more up-to-date version of
MapBasic than I own? These are MAPBASIC.DEF MENU.DEF (etc).
I use MI6.5 and my MB version is 3. Most MB coding I do is OK with the old

Hi All
It is possible to resize a whole bunch of regions to a uniform size
without affecting the centroidal location and orientation or the region?
I have imported a whole lot of regions shaped as arrows from a water
modelling software. The regions or arrows point to the direction of
