The easiest way to make a copy of the table and in that copy use an
update expression where you replace the object with the centroid of the
polygon.
You can create this centroid simply, by using the Centroid function. In
MapBasic this would result in:
Update set Obj = Centroid(Obj)

In the MapBasic window enter thsi line followed by ENTER:
Update MYTABLE Set OBJ = Centroid(OBJ)
Replace MYTABLE with the name the copy of your table
