We recently similarly had a machine that was extremely slow compared to
other machines doing the same tasks. It puzzled us
immensely, and nobody seemed to know the answer. Then someone bothered to
check its virus checking measures

I have disabled the virus checking software, and I also connected the Pc to
the network via a different cable and connection point, alas these changes
made no difference.
