a way of doing this if you are not too famialiar with mapbasic is to set
the projection of the map window to something other then BNG then set it
back to BNG once more using the map options dialog.
To change the projection of the map go to Map > Options,

You need to set the coordinate system explicitly to BNG when using
eastings/northings in your program for calculations in the UK rather than
lat/long (which is what you are defaulting to).
Look at Set Coordsys - the values for BNG are
Set CoordSys Earth Projection 8, 79, "m", -2, 49
