Thank you Peter and Ian, Switching from the LaserJet 4250 to an HP800GL as the Windows default printer seems to have solved this. Interestingly enough, prior to this problem this PC would fail to open the layout window in v. 6.5 workspaces. I looked at the Output Options Printer and saw
