You should create a new shape from the combined polygons:
- Select all required polygons
- Copy them into a new table using Save copy as (selection)
- Open the newly created table
- Objects - Combine - create a single shape
- Change display settings so they won't disrupt your map
- Select the new

Maybe make the Cosmetic layer editable, select your multiple polygons, and
do a CNTL-C folllowed by CNTL-V (cut and paste). Then choose Objects
Combine to combine all polygons in the Cosmetic layer. Then use this merged
polygon for your clip region.

Make sure you save the changes to the table first because I asume you cannot
clip on a In Memory object, only on MapInfo Object that is physically in a
table. I think for that same reason that it cannot be done on the cosmetic
layer
