I have seen the same bug.
A related problem is often seen in the quickview panel, though the same
problem exists with binary filenames, though non-printable characters in
filenames is more rare.
Testing it now, filenames with escape sequences

Another, smaller issue, is that the scrolling happens a screenful at a
time. It would be more intuitive if it scrolled a few lines at a time.
Maybe if other people like the current behaviour it could be made into some
kind of user preference or
