From The Filter, a publication of the Berkman Center for Internet Society
judge at what point you have reached your limit. No
matter how you scan the image, if its going to be larger than the original it
will loose some qualities the original has at its 5x7 size.
Hope this helps. Feel free to contact me.

Just to be clear, interpolating is not the same as scaling. Wanting a 5x7
photo or document to be 200% its size when scanning is scaling. Having a
completed 5x7 scan at 300ppi and then making the file larger is interpolating.

It would be too bad if it wasnt open source. the philosophy has been
that licensing should not be a restriction to adoption, Crow said. Id
say the same thing if I were working for Microsoft.

Unlikely. Has anyone looked into this?

Make sure you have someone that knows how to use and has a strategy for
implementing and maintaining your system PROPERLY.

have PCs in our office and a Mac in the studio.

take photographs in the Ultra Violet and InfraRed parts of the
Photoshop CS2 and Real World Print Production (pulished today
actually), that hit on the production side of color management.

I would also suggest doing a lot of pre-planning. And hiring someone
part-time or full-time manage this.
Deborah,
I think alot of the issue is we are at the beginning of public use of
collections in the same way we search for books.
Here at the IMA we are currently working on a project with our Education
Resources departmet to include subject heading in our cataloguing of our
objects. Being a
Id be very interested to see what you come up with. It sounds like your
looking for more of a copyright policy rather than a digital imaging
policy. Which is really the most troubling part of having digital files
that can be easily copied. Im sending over our intellectual property
policy. And
I would need to know more about your image zoom application or database but
here is a suggestion. The bold areas are direct responses to your question.
Think of your computer as a portal. No matter what resolution your image, it
will appear on the monitor as 72dpi. Whether zoomed in to 100%,
for the structure of the content. The system you purchase
isnt going to automate itself out of the mess that comes with no
pre-planning and creating a sound and controlled schema.
Work now saves a ton of work later.
