I don't think you are being anal. Oil pressure that bounces between 0 - 1
BAR at idle & then goes full scale at road speed is not the gauge, it's the
oil pump or main bearings!

This is true of all gasser benzes -- they LOVE to run, and you get
much more power at the upper end of the rpm range that the bottom.
Also, the linkage opens the throttle in a very linear manner, leading
to the complaint that they don't have enough power off the line.

Here are the parts of my evapectomy summary relevant to inst cluster. (This
was on a 124, but the removal tools are same for a 126, and 126 cluster
extraction itself is basically the same.)
The problem I had removing the cluster is rare - had not had this prob. on
coupla 123 clusters I've remove

Nont to worry about the oil pressure, the guage on that car is a little
flakey. It will bounce from about 1 or so to 0 at idle. Real reading is
about 1 to 1.5.

You drove the 300E doing highway miles. I am primarily driving it at 35 mph,
stop sign to stop sign. That is when I notice it. This certainly was not as
apparent on I-80 / I-35 as it was doing the stop and go stuff in Jefferson
or Ames.

Yea, thats the one. Its got the high tech custom manual shutoff for the
heat. Really want it to work properly. I know when I had it I was
driving it during the winter and the heat turned on and off I think. I
