2) Bend flap out of the way- INTO the oil pan
3) R&R oil pump
4) JB Weld soup can patch over hole in pan

I watched a fellow change the oil pump in a mid '60's Pontiac is about
45 minutes once. This was a huge flat rate job as R&R of engine was
required per the book. Car had -0- oil pressure, might have a junk
short block? Do you change oil pump? Rebuild engine? Car was about 5
years old.

I agree - plus, isn't there a mesh screen over the oil pump intake like the
older engines? I rebuilt the engine in my 69 280SE and know it was on that
oil pump and I equally positive there's one on my 616 oil pump.
The other worry is the ball bearings getting trapped in the area of the
front

I changed the MM this morning - no drama for a change ;-) was pretty
simple. The hard part was getting the noise shields back in place/
I'm happy with the lower noise with the new MM - quite a bit quieter.
I'm going to go ahead and replace the other side too. I just prefer

leak on the brake side could cause

'vault', and fell into the chain/sprocket assembly. I've seen so much junk
inbedded in the bottom of old oil pans, hard to belive it can 'jump up' and
cause damage.

So you're saying that due to the baffles inside the oil pan, I may not
have much luck trying to get all the piece-parts out via drain hole and
oil level sensor hole? I wonder if pulling off the front engine cover
