There are several special tools that aid in subframe mount and lower wheel
carrier joint replacement. However, they are not necessary. A spring
compressor is not necessary for rear springs. The single most important thing

I too am going through this same debacle, although I am converting to
a sportline suspension. Rusty says he has a list of all the parts needed
for this. My 87 300D needs new everything all around so I might as well
throw in the extra few hundred for springs.

Sounds like you're "doing it right". I replaced most of the rear links on
the '90 124. I could not get the tie rods (with the ball joints) off at the
chassis end, and they didn't look that bad. I also replaced the tie rods and
