Ammonia dissolves the corroded aluminum which is making the seat post too large
to move. If the seat tube is open to the

Heat? Maybe a bit of propane torch work on the steel
might help. Can you get a steel rod in the bottom to
apply some serious metal-hammer pounding in the opposite
No amount of more gentle persuasion got the aluminum
pistons out of my generator's rusted Hercules engine.
It was pounding them out from the bottom that got 'em
moving. (Both the pistons and the block are still in
use.) The Kroil (and PB) were instrumental, I'm sure
they'd have come out in
A lot of those guys who hung around the ramp were FOS about a lot of
things, so that is just another one.

That's why I said E-Code, like these from Daniel Stern:

There is a guy who has a 93 TE I am interested in, has 190k on it
he says it has grey smoke when you get it up to about 2k. from
the description it seems like maybe it doesnt smoke until you rev
it up. What could the deal be with that, bad valve guide seals or
something?

Bad valve seals usually manifest by oil smoke at startup.
I'd guess bad head gasket...coolant smoke

Could be a number of things, but the valve guides are a weak point in
those engines.
Not sure what would make it smoke only at 2000 rpm though, unless
it's serious blowby from worn cylinders.

Well I foundd that the starter solenoid works so I have a break somewhere
between the started solenoid and the ingnition start switch. Most discussion
on forums relates to the starter lock-out relay module (K38). I have not
found it yet. Next place to check is behind the instrument cluster. Is

'Just looked it up. It's behind (well, in front of, really, in relation to
the car) the instrument cluster. Remove instrument cluster. Sitting in
driver's seat, K38 is behind upper left corner of inst. cluster;

BTW, if you car has telescoping steering wheel, you can run it to the fully
extended position, and you don't have to remove steering wheel to remove the
cluster.

Neither. It came via my brother-in-law from Pittsburgh. He looked at
it and I failed to mention to check the seat post. We checked
everything else.
I frequent Licktons for tools and occasional parts. Bought a new bottom
bracket tool from them tonight and asked about 1' derailleur cable
Ok. I've had the bottom bracket out and back in to check and make sure
the seat tube goes all the way in, and it does. Next is finding ammonia
locally. Suggestions?
