I'll preface this by saying that my approach to fixing overheating issues is
not too far from replace parts from cheapest to most expensive until
fixed.
Sounds like you've eliminated the mechanical fan. Have you tested the
electric fan(s)? That test is not too hard.

I think you're confusing ASR with ASD, both options for traction control in
that era. ASR uses the ABS sensors and ABS pump to apply brakes on the
slipping wheel, I believe. ASD is basically a locking differential, with
hydraulically activated clutch packs, which takes cues from the ABS sensors
If the filters are that blocked that they can stop the engine at idle,
the engine WILL not restart, in tank strainers may do this but rare on
idle with a fullish tank.
Eliminate the engine shut off mechanism from the equation. If it makes
you feel better and the list, by pass the fuel tank by

I agree. It's a trivial test, too. If the two lines to the
keyswitch valve got swapped the line to the IP is blocked
(rather than vented) when the car is running, and it might
be possible for there to be leakage, or weird crankcase vs
Shouldn't matter once the car is moving...
My '85's fan clutch didn't work at all and as long as it didn't sit still for a
long time.

I have a question about the inlet - outlet temp testing. In theory - even
if a significant drop is noted, (such as 20C), wouldn't a blocked radiator
reduce the volume of water being cycled? So even with an effective water
pump, the cooling system would be unable to keep up with the heat producd
Would this also account for low power and general sluggishness above 35 mph?
