I don't recall how many Ohms a good plug is, but it's quite low, maybe .01 or something like that? Might be hard for a cheap meter to read accurately. 0.6 ohms. Better yet is a 20A old-style dash ammeter, you can watch it heat and see that they all 'track'. -- Jim

Yes, check the fuse and plugs first. Resistance should be 0.7 ohm using the procedure Allan described. Less indicates a shorted plug(likely to take out the fuse strip) More likely is resistance higher than 0.9 ohm, which indicates a bad plug. It takes a really good ohmmeter to measure

Thanks to all for the advice! I am going to get new Bosch glow plugs because it is probably a good idea anyway and not that expensive. I researched changing the glow plugs and saw it mentioned to get a reamer tool and remove carbon deposits before installing the new glow plugs. I did not do

It's not as important to ream out the pencil type plug holes, but it's still a good idea, as you can short to ground and burn out a new plug if there are large amounts of carbon built up. On series plugs, a carbon short will instantly burn the wire loop, especially fast if it's #5 or #4 --

Thus, the usefulness of a good multimeter. It allows you to pick up high resistance in the GP. When the resistance goes high, then the current goes low, thus you have a plug that does not get hot enough. Most of the time they just go open, so any cheap meter or even a continuity light will
