Only failure mode I've ever seen is that they get loose and allow the
door to flop around, not staying in the open position when you are
trying to put your kid in the back seat.
The original roller/spring designs couldn't really fail-open,
but the sliding spring-loaded ball-bearing design can/do
there were at least 2 different campaigns to replace the TOs on the '85
617s; i don't think the second one was in place yet in '91, so there may
be yet a later part.

Recently, 'had another coupla days of overnight discharge in my 126; year or
so ago, it was radio amp in trunk; few days ago, it was radio in center
console. Now, BOTH lacking power - unplugged.

When #1 daughter had my 300D (1987, 124) the battery would sometimes
discharge overnight, but not consistently. Since I got it back in
May, there has been no problem until Sat, when SWMBO went out and it
would not start. (~30 degrees) Turns out the battery was dead flat.

to be oriented in a specific way relative to the LCA?

replace the switches on our '95 E320 and looked at the way to do it
and found it wasn't obvious. The first difference between the W124
and the W123 is getting the sliding-lid compartment off -- I don't
