Funny this thread is up now. I'm sitting at the Carbondale Amtrak station
waiting in the city of new Orleans which is currently running an hour behind.

It sure died a quick death - I don't recall seeing anything about it after the

Max,
Removing all like Dan did is easier than you think.
Starting from a rust free car, a well trained MB mechanic can do this in
under one hour.
I have done this many times in the 80s when the W123 was a young car.
If you never did this before but you can read the technical manual and have

Yes, this is a major undertaking, but on a 123 doing everything in a day is

I was in a data center once where the UPS was an ENORMOUS flywheel connected to
a big generator/motor. When mains power was good the big generator/motor kept
the flywheel spinning, when mains power quit the thing could supposedly provide
something like 10kw for around 3 minutes at which point
Scary thing is I'm actually thinking about trying this some day.

That is a motor generator, and the predecessor of the present day UPS system.
GE made them for IBM mainframes early on, and later other manufacturers came
into the business.
In the case of the mainframe computers, they actually served two purposes - to
provide a few seconds of ride-through
shows.
Any suggestions on how to get it out?
Thanks,

I'm hoping someone else knows a good method, but it looks like you've got good
access straight at top. Perhaps there is a tool with a bit you can pound down
into or over the head, and then turn it out.
Another thought; clean and then fill recess with JB Weld epoxy, insert hex key,
let it set

That bolt is another reason to remove the fan and shroud for this job.
You do not have to remove the bolt, just loosen it so the tab with a
slot in it slides back.
I found that out after getting it all the way out. Going back in is
no fun, either.
