I think cosmetic engine covers are stupid. WTF is the _hood_ for?

I think the engine cover is mostly cosmetic, but don't take my word for it.
Hard to imagine a dealership service tech forgetting to replace it, but I
suppose it's possible. Also possible is that it was serviced somewhere else

People do, all the time. Ask any dealer...

Clearly some people don’t want the degree of complexity present in today’s
cars. Not like that car is simple but compared to today’s it is. Plus you can
no longer get a new Mercedes diesel and this car is essentially a “new” diesel.

Why would you purchase a Mercedes diesel and then drive it only 19K miles
over 19 years? Why would someone else want to pay $31K for such a vehicle?

Only one photo but doesn't look bad. I assume the rear window wiper does not
normally park in the center as shown.
With that mileage, I would assume it needs or will soon need some engine work?

You could add it to a partially filled tank. I've found that a relatively small
amount of veggie oil makes a huge difference in the sound of a diesel engine. I
haven't tried in my TDI but in a 240D a quart of veggie oil in a full (or
nearly full) tank of diesel would substantially quiet the engi

I looked closer when I drove past again and it’s B20. I’ll pass I supposed. No

If you wanted a W126 rocket ship this would be a good choice, but it’s been my
experience that the 500SELs never got much love as far as value, so I think
their ask is a little optimistic.
Nice looking car, definitely one of the nicest I’ve seen in a long time.

Price seems crazy for a car coming up on 40 years old, but miles aren't bad and
looks pretty nice.

I had a 240D once where I drove around WA State, from Spokane to Vancouver
to Seattle and back to Spokane. Just over 1000 miles, on one tank.
Of course, it had a 20-gallon auxiliary fuel tank in the trunk! MPG was 23.5

Another reason to own an older diesel which has no such restrictions!
