It may have improved but the problem with LEDs in the dash used to be they emit a very directional light. Dash lighting depends on light reflecting from the edges, or passing through diffusers or "light pipes". With LEDs, you might get spotty lighting, or even very little because the bulbs are

I did it in both of my 240Ds. The only pain point was that the sockets are keyed yet the LEDs will only work when plugged in one way and IIRC you have to put the pod in to test it. The LEDs gave the brightness of xenon bulbs without melting the housing. A definite improvement on a 123 car. I
