My kid is tearing up my 80 300SD. The latest is a broken shock. It
looks like the bottom washer on the top mount broke, and the top of the
shock is sticking up about 4 inches. The Monroe shocks are about a
third the price of the Bilsteins. Is it really going to matter in a 25
year old car?
I just got the 84 SD that my mechanic did an engine swap in, and have a
question about the oil pressure gauge. When you turn on the key, the
needle goes up about half way. Once the car is running, it stays
pegged. No drop at idle at all. Any ideas?
After letting my son drive my 1980 300SD for three months, I needed to
use it. On right hand turns, there is a metal sliding on metal noise,
and when you straighten out, a metallic clang, with occasional metallic
pops. I'm thinking it's a bad axle or CV joints from a 17 year old

Thanks. I thought it might, but I have had bad glow plugs before with
no blinking, on this car too.

I gave my kid (17) a 1983 SD. Right now, he is driving my 1980 SD until
the 83 gets out of the shop with an engine/transmission transplant. I'm
going to sell the 80, since I finally decided that I need AC in Georgia,
the 80 has none, and it would be too expensive to fix it. The old SDs,

Is there any info out there on bypassing all the vacuum controls and

This is the '81 that I bought for my son. The starting problem was the
result of bad glow plugs. Replaced those, and it starts fine. The
present problem is that every plastic or rubber hose is shot. I've
replaced all the fuel lines, but most of the vacuum lines fell off on
their own, and I
