I think we're talking gas (2nd gear starts) vs. diesel (1st gear starts).
All of the 201's, 126's, 140's and 124's gas models I have owned all
started in 2nd gear unless you manipulated the shift pattern.

They even changed fluid and checked the level. What's the best way to
check front pump pressure?
